Cat Finlayson, Model Laurence Caird.
Title: Victorian Magic Man.
Researching the History of Magic I was struck by the golden era of creativity in the early Victorian Years. I wanted to turn Laurence into one of the incredibly sophisticated Automatons that amazed Victorian audience. His front imagines the inner workings and outer clothing of one of those creations. Laurence's back celebrates the modernisation of magic as it moved from the mysticism of using stars and the natural world, to machinery, card displays, and electricity that reflected stars in the stunned eyes of the attentive crowds.
Mel Broomem Model Will Shave.
Title: The Dark Magic Guardian.
My paint is based on a character in an online magical game. The Dark Magic Sorcerer draws his powers from the old style voodoo, witch and shaman magic. The most powerful guardian in the game, he uses his dark magic to protect and guide questers throughout their journey, aided by his twin raven spirit guides who rest on his back as tattoos, and can be summoned to living form at his command.
Title: The Butterfly Fairy.
The Butterfly Fairy is a colourful representation of the theme ‘Magic’. My piece takes inspiration from the magic inherent in nature and the magical fantasy realm of faerie.
